Whenever she is called to formally meet a member of royalty, she changes into more formal and respectable apparel. When she is out in an unfamiliar town, Shirayuki always wears a hood so that her hair won't attract any unwanted attention. In the kingdom of Tanbarun lives a young herbalist with rare apple-red hair named Shirayuki. Her unique beauty catches the attention of the crown prince, Raj, who orders her to become his concubine.

In spite of external opposition due to their difference in social status and the demands of their professions, Zen and Shirayuki begin to fall in love with each other and eventually begin a romantic relationship. She is optimistic, resourceful, determined, yet she can be kind and compassionate. She tends to be reasonably independent but will accept the help of others when necessary. Sometimes, her determination to be independent ends up working against her, and she has been known to overwork herself to the point of making herself sick.

When they arrived in the mountains they met and joined the Mountain Lions mercenary group. She died when Shirayuki was very young and Shirayuki has no memory of her. Madame Liera is a mysterious woman who was in contact with Touka Bergatt, and was possibly employed by him. She seems to be connected to the perfume that is actually a drug to lower one's inhibitions that has been in use at masked balls in the north and is a possible spy for the Bergatt and Tohz families.
